Crossing to Safety (1987) is Wallace Stegner's final novel. The novel told from perspective of Larry Morgan and  is about how two couples friendship formed during the Great Depression in Wisconsin and aged thorughout their entire life. The book does not offer a fast-paced ever changing melo-drama that some readers may prefer; however, the characters and the relationships bewteen them are so stunningly well developed that readers cannot fail to notice that the lack of the drama is the essence of the novel. It is certainly one of the Stegner's finest ficional work and offers an evidence that any life is sufficiently rich to invoke an emotion in us all.
